Just Remembering!

Back in the late 1950’s or early 1960’s, our section started Operation Friendship that helped people who had some mental health issues gain life skills.   At the time, our office was located in Detroit on Six Mile Road, and was equipped with a stove that we used to introduce some basic cooking lessons.  Our volunteers also helped our visitors learn how to use a bus, to go to a bank and some other essential every day activities.  While interacting with the attendees, volunteers offered them the opportunity to socialize, a very important step in leading a fuller life.  Later, socialization parties were carried out by our volunteers at various churches in the area.
