The Vagina Monologues

On a cold snowy evening, February 19, 2008, the Greater Detroit Section performed Eve Ensler’s play, The Vagina Monologues,  for more than 700 people. As President I was overwhelmed by the courage of our section to undertake this performance and the response of the community to a program that brought awareness around the issue of violence against women. That evening we spoke for those that have no voice:
• for the daughter fighting cancer
• for the infertile woman
• for the woman inside my woman
• for the mother, who forbid me
• for the daughter who empowered me
• for the sister who was abused
• for those who have no voice
• for myself
• for you
• for our community
That evening we made this a human issue rather than just a women’s issue. It was the highlight of my presidency and I was honored to be an NCJW woman and represent women who turned their beliefs into action.
