Golfing with Project Friendship

Participating in Project Friendship, I can immediately see the affect I can have on adults with mental challenges. One of our annual events with our clients is Miniature Golf. We divide up into teams of 4-6 individuals to play golf with a volunteer. As a volunteer, I quickly saw how this activity impacted one of our clients. One of the clients in my group had what I would call a “melt down”. He sat on a bench, crying and refusing to play. After much encouragement from Kadima’s Activity Director, the client began to play. The other clients continued to reassure our upset client. I could quickly see the change in the client’s demeanor; he began to smile and even had a “hole in one”.  Project Friendship allowed our client to become involved in a fun activity on a Sunday. He had an activity to participate in, was with people who cared about him, and was not sitting at home with nothing to do.  After each of our Sunday events, our volunteers receive a great deal of satisfaction upon hearing our clients say “Thank you National Council of Jewish Women”.
