Memories, Memories

During my first year as a NCJW board member I was asked to Chair the play Love, Loss and What I Wore.  I was amazed to meet so many talented women.  The play was a huge success and I loved being a part of it.  The abundance of camaraderie was special.

Another memory during these 2 years was to help at the Adult Kadima Golf outings and the Franklin Cider Mill.  Kadima Sunday morning Brunches were enjoyed by all.  The NCJW women in charge of these events were truly doing a Mitzvah!

This year I helped collect shoes for school children.   I was happy to see how many bags of shoes had been collected and donated by the children of my synagogue, Congregation Shaarey Zedek.

In 2014 I learned the setup of the Back to School program.  It was an unbelievable undertaking and so successful.  This year, I helped by knitting hats for the children.

The Adult Guardian program sent me to a nursing home in West Bloomfield.   I visited an elderly Russian lady. She spoke Russian and I did not, but between our hand signals and eyes we sat together and had a wonderful time.  When I was ready to leave she took my hand and kissed it.  This is my most endearing memory.

In 2015 there was an ad in the Jewish News.  The first Michigan Adult Abuse Center was looking for help.  Jacqui Elkus and I thought this would be a meaningful program for NCJW.  We contacted Barbara Giles, the Associate Director at the Senior Jewish Life Campus.  Barbara was delighted to have NCJW partner with the Adult Abuse Center.  She came to one of our Board meetings and made a presentation.

With the help of our President, Susan Marwil, and the Board we were given a generous budget to purchase personal comfort kits for future clients.  We made 12 Welcome boxes with items we purchased for clients, who sometimes arrive the middle of the night with nothing on their person.  Also a gift of a blankets will be given to each client, including some helpful pamphlets about NJCW and a Welcome letter from our President.

It has been a pleasure and honor to be part of the NCJW Board and to help create a few memories for its 125th Anniversary.
